What I want to be when I grow up.

So I am now almost 36 years old and I finally know what I want to be when I grow up.

It is right here, right now.  I want to be a writer, and a blogger.  This is the platform that I needed quite a while ago. This is the reality of what I have wanted to do since Kindergarten.   I have evolved from a typewriter, through my TRS-80, a wonderful 386 machine with Windows 3.1 and on to today.

I have finally found what I want to do.  I want to write and connect with people all over the world.  I want to have people buy and read the things that I have created.  I want to stay home and raise my family and provide everything they need, online and from my computer.

This is short, but this is what I want to do.  I am a blogger.  I am a writer.  Soon, I will be grown up.

Please Comment!  What do you want to be when you grow up?

Waiting for Inspiration, A Sure Way to Fail.

I love to be inspired.  I’m sure everyone does at some point.  It is great to sit down and be struck in the face with a fantastic posting idea but lets face it, how often does that actually happen?  How much more realistic is is to have a great idea on the way to the bathroom or in line at the bank?

I keep a digital recorder around to hang onto these ideas.  That doesn’t mean any of those ideas will ever see the light of day or be pounded into my computer.  There are the days when I do have an idea and can get it down quickly so it works.  There are days when I play around on the internet and am extremely undisciplined because I am doing “research” or “learning” and it is all BS.  These are the days when it is dinnertime and I realize that I still haven’t written, actually WRITTEN, anything but some snarky comments and maybe an email all day.

I started to do that today and I realized that I was telling myself that I was just waiting for something to write about.  I was waiting for inspiration.  That thought brought on this post.  Just waiting around will only cause me to fail in my quest to be a writer and on some of those top 10 blog lists.

And now, for my next trick, I will transcribe some of my post ideas from the recorder.  With luck I can have 2-3 posts lined up by the end of the day.  End of the weekend is more likely though.

Get out and enjoy the weather if you can!  Snow is coming to Salt Lake tonight.  Can’t wait, already have the snowblower gassed up.

You are a writer…I am too!

Today I am reviewing a new ebook by my new friend, Jeff Goins.  He is a writer.  He wants to bring out the writer in all of us.  Check him out at goinswriter.com, subscribe to his email, read his blog, he is infectious!

Anyway, I volunteered to review his new book because I thought we would help each other.  I want to get back into the groove and write like I did before, and Jeff’s book is jut the thing to do it with.  Besides, he is looking to sell his book, and if I can help a brother make some coin, I will!

For full disclosure and all of that, I received a free review copy of the book from Jeff to write this review with.  You know, in the past, I used to think that review copies of books meant that the book was an excerpt or unfinished.  I have been proven wrong over the years.  Especially with this book.  I found it well thought out, organized and full of the information that I need for me right now.
