Podcast #2: State of the Blog!

Hello all of you lovely readers!  Well here we are at the end of the week and you may have wondered where the ^$%& I have been.  Like I said Monday, it has been a reset week.  A week for working on the business end of a few things and getting ready to hit it hard.

With that, I have recorded podcast #2!  Enjoy, and please let me know what you think!

Another Review: This time Blogger Beats!

Hey Folks!  Today I bring you another review, this one is not an affiliate link yet!

If you are not listening to Blogger Beats, you should be.  Twice every week, Nathan Hangen (you have heard of him right?) and Oleg Mokhov bring you a great mix of music and inspiring messages to help get your workday started.  Or something like that.

Basically, Nathan comes in at the first with something to think about.  How to make your blog a business, or your business a success.  Then you have 25 minutes or so of some great music from Oleg.  This is not super beat heavy dance club music and it definitely does not put you to sleep.   I am not a big fan of most electronic music but this is good stuff.

I gets in your head in a way that really lets you concentrate on your writing and not what is playing in the background.  I have been listening and writing at the same time for a while now, and most of the time I don’t notice the time flying by.  I have a bunch written when Nathan comes on again at the end to sum up his earlier question.

I have been digging the beats since the launch of the site, and I am hooked.  Recently, they have released music only mixes that are sans-Nathan but with all of the good music.  I put a bunch of those in a playlist the other day and wrote almost 2000 words before I noticed that I had been writing that long!

The details:  Head over to http://bloggerbeats.com and sign up.  You get a week free and then it is $9 per month for 2 episodes per week.  For a dollar and some change, per episode you get some great tunes and motivation that just may kick your business in the rear end.  Give up a Red Bull per week and you pay for it.  And then some.

Go get in on the beats, I am really digging them. And they are not paying me to say this.  Yet.

See you tomorrow and don’t forget about fiction Saturday’s!  New podcast coming Thursday…

Waiting for Inspiration, A Sure Way to Fail.

I love to be inspired.  I’m sure everyone does at some point.  It is great to sit down and be struck in the face with a fantastic posting idea but lets face it, how often does that actually happen?  How much more realistic is is to have a great idea on the way to the bathroom or in line at the bank?

I keep a digital recorder around to hang onto these ideas.  That doesn’t mean any of those ideas will ever see the light of day or be pounded into my computer.  There are the days when I do have an idea and can get it down quickly so it works.  There are days when I play around on the internet and am extremely undisciplined because I am doing “research” or “learning” and it is all BS.  These are the days when it is dinnertime and I realize that I still haven’t written, actually WRITTEN, anything but some snarky comments and maybe an email all day.

I started to do that today and I realized that I was telling myself that I was just waiting for something to write about.  I was waiting for inspiration.  That thought brought on this post.  Just waiting around will only cause me to fail in my quest to be a writer and on some of those top 10 blog lists.

And now, for my next trick, I will transcribe some of my post ideas from the recorder.  With luck I can have 2-3 posts lined up by the end of the day.  End of the weekend is more likely though.

Get out and enjoy the weather if you can!  Snow is coming to Salt Lake tonight.  Can’t wait, already have the snowblower gassed up.

Can You Catch Up or Just Get Ahead?

Folk tale depiction of Father Christmas riding...

We all have dealt with the futility of trying to catch up.  Whether it is on TV shows, with sleep or on blog posts.  It always seems like there is something more that I can’t get done.  There are times when I say, “Ok I am just going to stop and start fresh right now.”  You all know this, I have said it enough on here.  But when is that just a cop out?  most of the time I guess.  I don’t think catch up will ever happen.

Right now, I have 13 more posts in queue that are all just snippets of ideas.  They all ave less than 25 words in them and are just ready to be fleshed out into wonderful and exciting posts.  some of them have been around a long time.  This one has a date of May 17, 2011, that would have been the date I wrote the title.

As you can tell, I am a little behind.  Or am I?  So again, I have to say, “This week is new.  My blog lives again.”   I am turning off the life support and beating it into submission.  The new host is almost ready to rock and I am going to head into year three screaming and on fire.  I know I can’t catch up.  I just have to move ahead.

I would ask how you feel but it seems my comment section is broken, or  you don’t like disqus.  If that is the case, shoot me an email with that nifty contact form over there and say so.  I would like to know my stuff is being read by more than my buddies Ralph and Bob and the Google crawlers.

Today we are heading to “Santa’s Workshop” via the Polar Express with the Make-A-Wish foundation.  I will be writing about that on Amelia’s site tomorrow.

Have a great Wednesday
